Night of a thousand stars

It’s a common misconception when they say “when you wish upon a star, that star is dead just like your dreams”. That’s not true. The average lifespan of a star is over 10 billion years. Majority of the stars we see in the night sky are within Milky way galaxy and also from the Andromeda galaxy. Milky way itself is ~100,000 lightyears. That means most of the stars we see at night are less than ~100,000 lightyears. So the odds of seeing a dead star is less. Nevertheless, they all look gorgeous when viewed from Earth.
